Admin is cool đź¤ź

The volume of information we use to make decisions in our work is growing, and our time to make those decisions is disappearing.

Information runs organisations, and yet often we do not have the time to respond to the opportunity this presents.

Instead we have to become well-practised at relying on our instant reactions, and processing partial or imperfect information.

Whether in virtual meetings or via a device in our hand, we set in motion events on a global scale, involving dozens of colleagues.

Done with purpose this has created a wonder of speed and agility, across thousands of miles and multiple time zones.

Done without purpose, it leaves chaos in its wake.

Deciphering who decided what, when it was decided can be lost in huge lists, fragmented sites or a thousand chat groups that are impossible to decipher.

And the difference, starts with the simplest of tasks.

It is about us recognising that in this fast moving world of information, it has never been more important to be organized.

Never more important to write down what we agree before our minds have to bounce to the next place.

Never more important to share this information efficiently and visibly with those who are engaged with us, to remind us of what we are accountable.

Never more important to access what we said we would do after the event, to make sure we’re always on purpose.

Intuitive intranet systems can replace documents, hidden on shared drives in huge undefined dumps.

Digital communication tools can replace flipcharts, hidden for months in bags of the person who held the pen.

Creative digital thinking can replace the use of our inbox as a vault for thousands of attachments.

We can use the power of digital to design and create communication and collaboration tools that help manage our information.

To make being organised an experience we embrace.

To make our admin cool.
